a day in my life

Hi! I wanted to do something different and take you with me for a day. I hope you enjoy! I had such a lovely time yesterday.

Sunday 6th, May

6.00 am Hello sunshine!

My always so nice body clock woke me up at 6 am on a Sunday. Funnily the first thing I noticed was that it was really bright inside. Yes, please and thank you to the sun shining this early! But I really hadn’t had enough sleep, so I about forced the sleep to come back. This has been a bit of a problem lately and yeah, maybe it’s the spring and all the daylight it brings with it, but I haven’t been getting enough sleeping hours. At least not those much-needed deep sleep ones. The result is waking up nearly always tired. So happy though to look at the weather forecast and see that it should be warm and sunny for at least the next ten days. That always gives some extra energy for the days.

8.30 am Time to get up

The best thing about days off! No rush to get out of bed. When I got up I walked into a sun blasted living room. Hot, damn! You know how you look at your home in the evening before going to sleep and think everything is good and when in the morning the sun shines, everything just looks dusty and dirty? Well, this is the situation I found myself in this morning, once again. A cleaning day it is!

10.00 am Going for a walk

After a quick shower and getting myself ready, it was time to go outside. I met up with my friend and we ended up walking down to the lake. We stopped so many times to just look around and enjoy the quickly changing nature. It’s truly so beautiful to get to witness. Our walk ended up lasting well over an hour. It was the best thing really.

12.00 am Smoothie time

I had some fruit still left from my previous food shop, so I decided to make a smoothie. It was a simple one. Bananas, an apple, raspberries, blueberries, hemp hearts and water. It was yummy and did the job of giving me energy to continue the day without staying on the couch.

1.00 pm Ticking something off of the to do -list

I’m so happy I finally got around to doing this. I’ve felt the need to, for once in my life, try to take care of the plants I have. And planting them was something I’ve been meaning to do for quite some time now. Let’s hope they live through this change! I’m actually surprised these have survived even for this long. I’m usually not so good with plants and flowers.. But it’s so nice to have something green inside. It brings so much life in to a space.

2.30 pm Recycling clothes and a food haul

I usually do my food shopping on a day when I’m not working. Especially if I’ve had long working hours and don’t have the energy to make wise choices or carry everything to home. Usually Sundays are a day off for me and today I happened to run out of pretty much everything, so it was time to do some shopping. It’s also so much easier to start a new week when I have food ready to make into lunch to take to work, rather than struggling to come up with what to eat multiple times a day.

I had a bag of clothes I wanted to recycle that had sat in my hallway for a couple of days, so I took that with me and I dropped it off on my way to the store.

What I bought with 24 euros: bananas, apples, limes, a passionfruit, an avocado, tomatoes, arugula, salad, a cucumber, a zucchini, an eggplant, sweet potatoes, broccolini, frozen mango cubes, tofu and almond milk.

I’m going to get a couple of portions of salad, a curry and roasted vegetables to go with rice and pasta I already had in my cupboard. As well as a couple of smoothies or banana ice creams and porridge from the almond milk. These will get me well into the week. What I really wanted to try was fennel, but the store I went to didn’t have it, so I might end up buying some at the beginning of the week.

4.00 pm Cooking and food prep

I didn’t feel like eating something heavy, so I decided to go with a big salad. I roasted some sweet potato chunks and broccolini to go with it to make it more filling. The thing about salads is that you can make proper meals out of them when you pile it up with things that give it more substance. So many people say ‘how do you survive with only eating salad?’ but the salad they think about is something we call a side salad. I will guarantee if you eat as little food as a side salad or foods that mostly contain water, you will not survive. You just need to be more creative with it.

To get those healthy and necessary fats I made a quick cashew turmeric dressing. It’s basically soaked cashews blended with enough water to make it light enough for a dressing and seasoned with turmeric, cayenne pepper, salt, garlic powder and juice of a lime. I also topped the salad with some pumpkin seeds and hemp hearts. Still dreaming about a proper, good blender. The food processor I’m using right now isn’t doing the job that well, sigh.

I made a same kind of salad for lunch tomorrow for me to take to work. Also because I have a morning shift tomorrow, I made a porridge with raisins, cinnamon, dates, blueberries and some chiaseeds for breakfast ready to go. Something I’ve learned, if you have an early morning wake up, leave absolutely nothing to the morning than the most necessary things. No need to make the morning any more stressful.

6.00 pm Grow them sprouts yourself

Let’s wish all the best to this try out. What could be better than getting to eat something you have grown yourself.

7.00 pm  Enjoying the evening at home

My evening routine, if you can call it that, is something I’ve been wanting to work on for a while. I love the thought of not picking up a phone after, let’s say 8 pm and getting that time in the evening just for yourself and truly relaxing and giving yourself the best possible setting when going to sleep. Do some evening yoga or meditate and let yourself process the day before going to bed. I find myself stumbling in the fact that for me this isn’t possible every single night because of my job. Some evenings I might not be home until 10 pm. And even though it’s important to repeat the action many times to make it a habit, I shouldn’t brush the idea off with some half excuse. I should just say to myself, ‘You can make this work and you’ll do your best. It’s okay if it doesn’t happen every single night.’. So this is still a work in progress.

Tonight I had one hour of YouTube time, catching up on some channels I follow. There’s so many people there making videos, who can motivate and inspire you and I love having some time couple of times a week to soak in everything I can get out of those videos.

After that I actually made an effort to not spent the rest of the evening on my phone. I did some yoga. Which I’ve been slowly getting back to, now that it’s over six weeks since the surgery. And it’s felt so good, getting to stretch my body and do some exercises. Sure, I’ve had some difficulties with not being so flexible (I wasn’t really that flexible to begin with.. hah) because it’s been such a long time since the last time but that’s something that will come back only with practice. I’m also building my strength back a little bit at a time, which actually is happening rather quickly with the help of having a job that is quite physical. But the fact that I’m able to do something with my body is amazing.

I felt so good about my day and I felt it in my body when I was going to sleep that I had done things that I enjoyed. I had been productive and I felt balanced with the energy inside of me. Sometimes everything feels so dull and it’s like you’ve been in a coma the whole day. But more often than not, when you go outside, when you get things done, you will feel so amazing. Like you’re on top of the world.
